This next Woman to be featured in my Women’s History Month Empowerment series is a fellow Queensbridge native, Taniqua Huguley. This sister is an absolute powerhouse.

Taniqua Huguley is a native of Queens, New York. In 2015 she received her B.A. in Sociology from Trinity College. She then became a TRINsition Fellow, connecting incoming students to resources at Trinity and in the city of Hartford. In 2017 she received her M.A. in Public Policy. During her undergraduate and graduate years she conducted research that focused on: the socialization and labeling of Black and Latinx girls, social mobility, and educational policies.
In 2017 Taniqua received the U.S. Fulbright Scholar research grant, which allowed her to conduct research in the only all girls juvenile facility in Trinidad and Tobago. For this project she analyzed the intersectional factors that led girls to become incarcerated. She also studied the various ways the country’s criminal justice policies impacted the lives of girls.
Taniqua recently launched Black Girls Achieve (BGA) an organization created to provide Black Girls with the necessary skills and tools needed to navigate Black girlhood. She is also the owner of TKH Global Consulting, a company that provides affordable college counseling, grant writing, and fellowship and scholarship assistance services.
Recently Taniqua joined the United Way of Central and Northeastern CT team as the Director of Economic Mobility Initiatives. Prior to joining United Way, Taniqua was the Outreach Director of Open Communities Alliance, a civil rights non-profit that focuses on desegregating housing in the state of CT.
Taniqua has been the Event Coordinator for Small Business Night Out (SBNO) for the past eight years. She is an active alumna at Trinity College. She is also a Governance Board member for Ida B. Wells Senior Housing and Youth Amplified Program (YAP). She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Taniqua is a recipient of the 50 for the Next 50, Hartford’s Finest, Soroptimist International Exceptional Women, and 100 Women of Color awards.
Do ya’ll see why I had to feature her? She’s incredible! Yet and still, she does even more than this. She’s constantly talking with young girls in the community, and reaching out to other change makers to find ways to collaborate on improving the conditions of our communities.
